How many of us dare to be different? Even though most of us are addicted to beauty products, not many of us are ready to break the convention and dress differently.with their Sophie collection and Human Fundamentalism Collection. Illamasqua, last season paid tribute to Sophie, a young girl who was killed only because she dressed differently,
I have seen people raving about Illamasqua, but what most overlook is the concept. Illamasqua revels in being different. They embody those marginalized people whom the conformists always suppressed and marginalized.
You might be wondering why I'm raving. No, it;s not merely about what brand sends what. I personally loved the idea. But then, you can expect this to come from a woman who had specialized in Modernism and Postmodernism as her specialization and who considers herself postmodern as the concept goes.
With their launch I had received a few goodies of which I'm reviewing the eye shadows today
|Clockwise: Ilamasqua Powder eyeshadow in Sex, Vernau and Cancan|
The first time I received, I felt the colors might be a bit dull. But no, the shades are highly pigmented.
What impressed me most was the complete ingredient list at the back, the eye for details-- they have Ilamasqua printed on the lock of the container and the ergonomic yet stylish shape of the pots, indeed adds a different mood for me.
The powder is tightly packed and more than the fingers, a brush picks it up better. The texture is somewhere between powdery and creamy and there might be a bit of fall out which is not so much that you cannot handle.
Here are the shades

The shades: There are tons of shades which you can check here. There is a description of each shade along with the texture.
|Single swipe of each :L-R : Cancan, Sex, Vernau|
Cancan: The site says this is a bright lilac purple, matt finish.
I think this justly defines the shade. I love the fact that I can wear it anytime and anyday.
Sex:: Pure white, matt finish.
It is the whitest eyeshadow in my own collection. Even though it is white, it doesn;t look chalky on me. I can use it highlight my brow bone or just layer it over a base for a full on color.
Vernau: Yellow ochre, matt finish. To me it doesn't appear as yellow ochre in the truest sense, but I would define it as a yellow based brown.
Because of my skintone, it doesn't show up properly. But since it is several tones darker than my skin, I have used it effectively as a contouring powder.
In fact, you can use the eyeshadows in anyway you like
- The shades are pigmented.
- Quite a wide range of products available.
- Beautiful packaging that speaks for the eye for detailing the entrepreneurs have.
- The colors can be built up.
- The lighter shades can be layered and never appeared chalky.
- Can be used anywhere on the body.
- The price.

Shall I purchase? yes. They also have an amazing lip product collection with some real wacky colors . I am watching out for their hottest reds and pinks ( recently launched Euridyce) which really have the shock factors.
As a tribute to the concept of being different, don;t be appalled , I am planning to recreate the Sophie look from the photo above. So, watch out this space for more things to be happening right here.
Welcome the different.
I have received the products from the brand. But my opinion is honest.
