This is a long pending post and honestly, I had intended to do this when I was in my brush hunting phase. Some time ago, I realized I had makeup overflowing my space, but did not own some basic brushes. So, the journey started sometime ago ( rather the journey for the special eyemakeup brushes) and on reading Apoorva asking for some suggestions, here is my suggestion.
This post is intended solely for beginners, so if you are quite a pro, skin this conveniently.
I would say do NOT buy the sets. I know they come cheap etc, but usually they contain the brushes that you won't use like an eye-brow groomer which you don't need in huge numbers or a mascara spool if you are starting with makeups. Here is my selection.
And very short reviews ( the individual reviews coming up soon)
1 Vega Powder brush: I know the brush doesn't look impressive, but mine is a prehistoric one when these used to be sold at 70 bucks! I have been using this regularly for long 6 years and it still manages to do the job well. Blame it on me the bristles have coarsened up because, being a novice back then, I had tried to dry it with my hair-dryer on one occasion.
The ones that you get these days are way better quality and are priced at around 160 INR f. There is an even larger one which comes for about 170 INR.
Oh! By the way, if you have blended the foundation, try buffing with this one afterwards. it yields a good result
2 Vega Blush brush: I had brought this one for 90 INR and of course the price have gone up. However one may diss, I like this brush. it works well with my baked blushes and picks up the right amount of color > I would sayt his is just right because unless you want to end up looking like a clown, you won;t want to use a denser brush for a blush. ( Even in that case, go ahead, you can achieve the over-done cheeks with these). This does a good job with powders, but mind, this is not for cream/liquid blushes.
3 Faces eyeshadow brush: This one! I cannot live without!!! Dense, soft, cheap! I use it to pack on shaodws, to blend the crease, to do soft creases and what not!!! Unless I am going for a too much of a detailed look, this one brush does everything for me! I would say GO!! GRAB IT RIGHT NOW!!! (More photos and review click here)
Price: 90 INR now.
4 Vega Pencil Brush: A nice dense pencil brush that does a good job at doing the corners, the crease, in smudging or diffusing the liner on the lashline. But I would say, it;s a bit too big for the last purpose. But then, still it's a good choice! ( for price etc more photos and reviews, check here)
5 Ecotools Angled liner: An angle liner is what every girl needs. The head is quite thin and comparatively wider. Although it is meant for filling in the brows, it does a good job with lining the lashlines. It's not something indispensable. I fact I am more happy with the angled liner that came in my 70 rupees brush kit :D
Bottomline, an angled liner is a must not the Ecotools brush.
6 A fluffy lipbrush from the store: It was just weird! This is a lipbrush but when I say this brush was way too fully to be a lipbrush, I just bought it! the fullfyness makes it a great eyeshadow brush!! The small head ensures a precise application and the fluffiness ensures a smooth blending into precise crease, lower lashline etc. I just love it!!
7 Vega Crease brush: To blend out the eyeshadows seamlessly, to put on a highlighter precisely, this might be your thing! For more review check here.
Some more accidental finds: I would come up with a post separately.
You can expect this space to be inundated with brush reviews and photos for some time now on :D
Xoxo

ReplyDelete*It
DeleteAwesome post for beginners like me. Bookmarked..Btw, I love the lipbrush..Is it from a particular brand ? I get really impatient applying lipsticks with those brush with hardly any hair..(Thick lips). I want something like that only..:-D
ReplyDelete@Prachi: Thank you so much. HIhihi, Nopes. it;s just that a store had them. It;s a fake Lakme :D if you are looking for something that would do an easier job, I would say try the Vega eyeshadow brush for the lips. It's wide and stiff enough to work with cream products. In fact, I do use it that way as well :P
Deletei have the "prehistoric" vega powder and blush brush (the one with the blue handle) :D and that's the only blush brush I have :D btw which brand has these fluffy lip brushes?? need to get myself one! :D
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! Even my powder one is the plastic handle silver colored one. I think the similar ones of which you have been talking about :D
DeleteOh, it's a fake Lakme. Just go to the old shops ( not in the malls etc) and look for whatever brushes they have in their collection. Surely you would find something like this :D
Nivedita! You are like God to me at this moment! I was just thinking to buy some make up to begin with..was confused about the brushes and see!! you post this great post today!! Thanks a lotttt :))
