Maybelline Gel Liner in Black: review, Swatches, photos
I know I might be the last person to jump into the bandwagon. But better late than never. Isn't it? For the last 4 or 5 months I have been using the Maybelline Gel Liner in Black and for the last two months almost regularly.
I am a liquid liner girl. So what made me turn to it? The innumerable reviews? Initially yes. I wanted to find out for myself what this hoopla is about.
My experience: The rosy ones:
It's very creamy and just glides over. No tugging or pulling. Even though initially I used a liner brush, I have switched back to the brush it comes with.
It dries very quick. I normally switch off my fan because I am afraid of the product drying up. So far, it has not shown any sign of that.
It doesn't smudge at all and is quite easy to take off if you are using oil or oil-based makeup remover. I always clean my eyes with pure coconut oil and then go over with a cleanser. So, not a problem for me.
How I use it:
Now here is a tricky part. The product actually is thick. So, if you are used to liquid liners initially you would find it difficult to manage. At first I would just 'dip' my brush and try to put it on. That way it went over too light. Hence, with the sturdy-bristled brush provided, I would kind of scoop up a wee bit of it and kind of layer/spread that dollop around smoothing it into a neat line. This resulted in an intense dark line.
The Not-S0-Rosy part:
Layered too thick it flakes. Not layered too thick -- I am not happy with the pigmentation.
At the end of the day it always flakes at the edges or the corners. In case you happen to touch, the line starts coming off in flakes. This is something I am not really happy about. Wish the shade was darker. or may be I am too obsessed with the darkest blacks.
Overall for 415 bucks I am just too glad.
I shall repurchase this if not only for the brush itself. Since it also comes with a cap, the whole kit becomes extremely portable.
My eyes only with the liner.
So, what do you think of this?
